So you insist on NaNoWriMo-ing, huh?
Just don’t forget to ask the question below as many times as necessary throughout your novel-writing process.
Question #8
Are you on the right track?
I’m not just referring to your word count. Whether you’re ahead, behind, or on par isn’t the biggest issue.
By on the right track, I am gesticulating wildly to where you are currently and where you plan on going in your story.
Are you 15,00 words in and nearing the climax already? Uh-oh. That poses a problem, doesn’t it?
Has your story veered off topic completely? So instead of talking about boats you’re now mentioning bears? Unless your novel is about boats and bears. In that case, write on.
Will your book lose momentum half-way through? I know you aren’t a fortune-teller or clairvoyant but every writer needs to foresee where their story is going to some extent.
Obviously, you can go back after the first draft to edit, rearrange, delete, etc. First draft notwithstanding don’t make your life harder by failing to sustain your novel, going off topic by digressing from your main theme(s), and/or losing steam.
Make your first draft as great as it can be by staying on track.
Hope y’all are doing well.
Tomorrow I’ll address: do you need to eliminate any distractions?

Well…This helped me decide novel-writing is not for me! Don’t tell me I have to give it a try in order to make sure. I’m sure!

I won’t. As long as you’re writing, I’m more than happy. 🙂
