Why Am I Failing English Class?

First of all, I’m not failing English class. I don’t think I ever have. I do, however, know some people who have indeed failed, meaning they didn’t achieve at least a 50 percent as their final mark. How tragic.

So why did they fail? Or maybe why are they failing?

Never fear, I’m here. I’m going to answer that (even though I really should be completing my English homework).

  • You hate analyzing. And I mean you absolutely hate it. Take me, for instance. I don’t see the point in analyzing a piece of work. Why can’t I just analyze my own work? Hehe, just kidding.
  • You don’t ever receive constructive feedback from your peers. I only have two reasons for this. You’re an advanced writer (read: published) and your classmates are not. Or nobody wants to help you get better or see you improve out of pure spite and jealousy. From past experience, it’s usually the former. Sometimes the latter. Once in a blue moon, both simultaneously occur.
  • You get stuck in groups where you do all the work. You write it, you edit it, you present it. But then these group-mates get credit for your hard labor. Someone please just rip out my heart right now. Don’t worry about returning it either.

That’s all I have for today.

If you would love to see more reasons, I can make that happen. Blogging beats doing English homework any day.

Am I right or am I right?

      1. I used to think everyone was just lazy. I mean if they don’t want to use their effort to find any mistakes, fine. But you’re probably right. Finding flaws in my writing is like finding an awesome person in this world. It’s next to impossible because there are only two. 😉

      2. Ahahaha. You’re right. Of course. I didn’t need to tell you that because I’m sure you already know it. What happened to all those honest people who gave honest feedback anyway? 🙂

      3. I don’t know, I think they disappeared when we all became a me society, no one does anything unless it helps them, it’s quite pitiful really. Great progress for this thing we’re nicknaming “humanity” 😉

      5. Don’t sell yourself short, you are IMMENSELY talented, you are DEFINILTEY going to be a force to reckon with in the near future for everyone else, not just for some of the few lucky fans like myself who have happened to find you while sifting through a lot of other crap on the net 🙂

      6. You are so amazing. Thank you for showering me with compliments almost every day. 😀 Haha, I dream about my future all the time and envision you in it. You are not just a lucky fan. You’re my equal, my brain-mate. We’re a team. 😉 I think it was you who found me so I have you to thank. You changed my life for the better.

      7. Awww, have I mentioned that I LOVE you! 🙂 The “compliments’ are the God Honest Truth (Capitals used on purpose for emphasis!) I feel exactly the same way, I could not have put it better but then I do share brain space and matter with you, I feel so lucky. Thank you for being there for me to find!

      8. Hahahaha! You’re so funny 🙂 Yeah, I think we’d have a hard time getting body guards to protect us from his evil streak 😀 John rarely likes anything I do so I am getting used to it 😉

      9. Ahahaha, John is stoppable! Yes, let’s keep on saying that! I’m not sure if he or anyone for that matter is ever going to be able to understand me 😉 Though I think all we have to do is recruit the services of Ms Lawrence and Superwoman and we’re set. John will be like very, very pliable putty in our hands! Muahahahahahaha 😀

      10. 😀 😀 😀 So true. John is going to wish he never got us introduced, even if he doesn’t know he did! How can anyone not know about us, even if you live under a rock, you’ll know about our existence. The rock will tell you 😉

      11. Haha, even inanimate objects, you’re so right. As usual. I am pretty sure all the hurricanes in the world are really just air particles battling for our precious lungs 😉

      12. It’s okay. I blame your inhumane school routine and teachers munching on your beautiful brain cells, it could never be your fault, so I would never have to forgive you, your teachers, now that’s another story.

      13. I swear, for the life of me, I can’t see why no one has brought them up on anti-humanitarian issue yet, I believe it’s a conspiracy, in fact I’m planning on doing a thesis on it sometime. I feel ya brain roomie 🙂

      14. Thank you so much for understanding. You’re right (as always) -what has the world come to? How could anyone not see the injustices they are doing by keeping as someone as brilliant as you cooped up in school? Animals, I say. Animals 🙂

      15. You’re welcome. This injustice needs to be taken care of. If nobody is going to do something about it, we will. The inhumanity cannot continue any longer. Ha. I’m with you on that one. You’re right, which isn’t a surprise. 🙂

      16. Yeah, a peaceful protest, at least with this campaign I KNOW all the youth are going to be on our side, hmm. We’d be like modern day Pied Piper’s only cooler and well greater 🙂

  1. You are totally right! I hate group projects… I had a group project for one of my online classes last semester and no one responded to any of my e-mails. I e-mailed my professor and explained everything and gave everyone a zero and me a B or an A or whatever I got on it.

THEN my group members e-mailed me appalled we all got zeros. They assumed I got a zero, too. I never e-mailed them back. 😉

  2. I remember when I was in a group like that. I was getting my Bachelor’s degree and I told the teacher that he didn’t do anything. I got 100 and the guy failed. This wasn’t English class, it was called Test and Measurements. I am good at English and writing classes, but I am learning to get better with my grammar. That is my only problem. Grammar. Who needs it, just read my words and go from there!

  3. How ironic: I’m supposed to be doing English homework too!

Yeah, I know what it’s like to be the brain of a group. That’s one of the worst things about regular school: you always carry the group while also being held back by it.

  4. Very best of luck in achieving your dream of being a writer, and I think blogging provides an excellent avenue for you to do just that. You’re already receiving feedback, and that’s important. But the most important critic you’ll ever have is yourself. Give yourself credit when you recognize that something you’ve written is good, but at the same time, never be satisfied with it; never believe that you can’t improve it further by giving it another read for the umpteenth time. You’re doing a great job, already, now keep it up! That is the challenge!

    1. Thank you for the kind words. I hope everything works out because I can’t imagine doing anything else aside being a writer. Yes. When I first started this blog, I had no idea what to expect. Over time I realize how far I’ve come and how much I’ve improved not just as a writer but as a person too. Wise words to leave by. You sound like you speak from experience. I’m grateful that you shared this with me; I appreciate it. I will. Challenge accepted. 🙂
