For some reason or many reasons, I have been struggling with Camp NaNoWriMo this year. Shocking, huh? As much as I hate to say it, the stress is starting to get to me.
I know it’s only been three days, but I’m already behind on my word count. Like way behind. Like last in a race. Near the starting point. Barely moved at all. That’s how behind I am.
Stress makes me melodramatic. More melodramatic than I usually am anyway.
In other news, have a Good Friday. Enjoy your Easter weekend no matter what you’re doing or not doing.
Promise me you’ll keep writing.
And blogging. I swear I enjoy reading your posts.
I was in your shoes last July. Nothing was happening. And it was making me crazy that I couldn’t move my story forward. My advice? Don’t force it. Forced creativity is a great way to kill the mood. Who says your whole word count has to be from one project? Write a poem. Do some flash fiction in a genre you’re not used to. Mix it up. But don’t guilt yourself over it. That’s never worth it. Good luck and Happy Easter!

You’re right. I guess this is one of those stories that need more time for it to happen. True. I have a few other projects in the works as well. Exactly. Writing is supposed to be, enjoyable. Thank you for the advice. Have a good one. 🙂

There will be times when you are blocked, like the proverbial dam. Other days, the dyke will break and you will be rushed along the wave of creativity, barely able to catch your breath once the words begin to flow. Don’t sweat the blocked days. Enjoy another activity and be ready to be swept along when the dam breaks.

Truer words have never been spoken. Sometimes even working on another writing project helps to unblock the dam. Thank you for the words of wisdom.

My suggestion is you’re suffering from inspirenza! It’s a dry patch in your writing. Try doing something like setting a timer for 5 minutes and writing whatever comes into your head, perhaps even with a pen and paper. It’s great fun, believe me!

Hahaha yeah I’ll try that. I’ve always loved writing in paper and pen. Thanks.

A little advice – Don’t worry about keeping tabs on the word count – Just write! – When you’re done writing, you’ll have the word count. Try it & let me know it turns out

That’s really good advice. I should find a way to disable the word count function. 😛

I went slow this past week, but I was able to push past the block. The first chapter really gave me struggles, but luckily the momentum has built. Write a little bit every day, even if it’s only a couple hundred words, and you’ll get there too. I’m about 2500 words behind now, but I feel like that’s obtainable to make up now that I’m on a roll 🙂

That’s good. You’re going into the second week strong. 🙂 Yep, every little bit adds up. I know you can catch up. Good luck!

Another one is word counting… does my head in. Whey the focus on how many words… who really cares? Just get on with it! Quality over quantity.

You have a good point, which isn’t surprising in the least because you’re you. 😛

Thank you. I just love it when people recognise pure genius. It takes a certain level of genius to do so and being the modest person that I am, it makes me so very happy not to have to try so hard from time to time for someone to see. 🙂
