Underbelly | A Poem

Shuffling of feet

Right and left

Forward then back

A blast of music

That I try to drown out

Their stares

Piercing eyes

Hear the rattle of wheels

Feel a jolt in my body

Lights flicker in, fade out

It washes over

Dim, too dark

Some days

I find the light too bright

Smell slick sweat

My nose wrinkles

Smoke reaches me

Spreading through the air

I focus now

Turn inwards and find

The underbelly of my wrist
