Time Out | A Short Story

2:18. Bailey had many pieces of paper spread out in front of her. Her eyes glossed over them.

2:22. She glanced at her phone before returning to the task at hand. 

2:27. Bailey needed to write one more exam. Then she’d be free from the clutches of school and into the warm embrace of summer.

2:34. The hand on Bailey’s rose gold watch on her left wrist ticked away as she read. But occasionally her mind drifted to another place, and the words on the page might as well have been in another language.

2:36. Nothing it seemed was entering her brain. She wished learning by osmosis worked.

2:39. Bailey looked around the room and checked her watch again. A chilling thought passed through her mind. Was her watch accurate?
