Voice Transcription Is A Game Changer

I love writing, but I don’t love typing. So I finally got around to trying out voice transcription. These days, I say some words into my phone and let technology do the rest. It’s not a perfect process, but transcribing is faster than typing everything out.

If only I knew about transcription back in the day. It would’ve saved me a lot of time. I’m all for efficiency.

I don’t know why I waited so long to start transcribing my writing.

This summer, I transcribed all my old handwritten blog posts. If I had to type up all of them, I’d probably be even more behind now. Typing takes too long. In fact, writing takes forever as well. Talking into your phone, on the other hand, isn’t too bad.

My new goal is to transcribe my creative writing. I have a lot of words ahead of me.

Come to think of it, you could even overcome writer’s block with automatic transcription.

Even though I like to write first, it’d be interesting to speak my thoughts straight away. I’ll have to try that out sooner or later.

Because I live under a rock, I don’t even know how long voice transcription has been around. I never thought to try it out until this year.

Sometimes, I wonder if I’m an old woman trapped in a young girl’s body. That would explain a lot.

As always, do what works for you. Whether that’s writing, typing, transcribing, or a combination of all three. Words won’t write themselves. Just get started. And finish your projects. That’s the only way you’re going to get better.

Yes, I should take my own advice. No, I don’t always practice what I preached. After all, I’m a flawed human being.

I do have to make edits when the transcription isn’t perfect. But the process works for me.

I’ll open the WordPress app, create a new post, click the microphone on my phone’s keyboard, and start talking.

Going forward, I’m thinking about doing the same with academic essays. I’ll write the first draft by hand and then say it out instead of typing every word. If the results turn out to be straight A’s, voice transcription could turn out to be an even bigger game changer.

Thanks to Descript for collaborating with me on this post.

  1. Interesting, informative post. I am an old lady’s mind in an old lady’s body…LOL, and I never think to use technology to make things easier on myself. You have given me something to think about and try out. Thanks!
