I’m Not A Good Novel Writer

I don’t have the patience. I used to once upon a time. But now I can’t seem to write a novel from start to finish.

It’s OK. Maybe I’m not meant to be a novelist. I’m still a writer. For now, I’ll stick to shorter stories and projects.

I’d still like to push and challenge myself. I want to create, so I will.

I’m currently working on a bunch of different things. Hopefully, one pans out.

When I look back at old manuscripts, I realize I’ve come along way. But there’s still a lot further for me to go.

Writing a novel is hard. I have so much respect for those who do.

When I first started, I had no idea what I was getting into. But I’m glad I picked up a pen and filled page after page.

Time would fall away. I could’ve stayed in that moment forever. I didn’t care about money or fame. The voices in my head didn’t stop me from writing. Neither did all the voices of society.

Remember what it was like to write when you were a kid. Think about all the fun you had.

Doubt is crippling. It can stop you from chasing and living your dreams. Don’t let it. You’re better than you think.

What are you scared of? What do you have to lose? Think of everything you stand to gain.

  1. I am currently writing a novel… I’ve had mind-block for a few months now though but I do intend to get back into it. You are right, writing a novel is hard. But it is fun if you let it be. It is probs the most fun thing to do because it’s such a big achievement! I have written about half of my novel now but to date it has taken me a year and a half… I don’t intend on giving up on it and I anticipate it taking more time to complete, maybe another 2 years. I love the writing bit but I am NOT looking forward to editing! Thank you for writing this post, I enjoyed reading it… You know what Herminia? – I always read your posts. Please keep them coming. I don’t always comment on them but I do always read them 🙂 You are a fab blogger – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

    1. That’s awesome. I hope you get back into it soon. Mhm, I agree with you. Drafting a novel is so rewarding. Good luck with finishing it! Same here. I find writing more fun than editing. No problem. Aw, thank you so much. That means a lot. You’re too kind.

  2. It’s not a race. If the right idea comes along, you’ll finish. And yes, you are still a writer no matter what. As long as you’re enjoying the process. 🙂

      1. That’s how I felt until I started writing a mystery. Once I started my mystery series I really felt like, “This is it. This is my genre, this is my story.” No published yet, of course, but it’s the one novel that I’ve been consistently working with for years. And I’m still not bored of it, lol.
