Is My Blog Dead?

I’m trying to blog again after I didn’t post that much in December. I fell off my habits. But new year, new me, right?

I will be making a few changes, hopefully positive ones. I don’t plan to stop blogging, but I probably won’t post every day.

Near the end of 2018, I wasn’t at my best. I’m determined to make 2019 better. I have so many ideas in my mind that I hope to manifest in real life. I’m looking forward to the next 365 days.

Last year, I didn’t love my creative process, and in turn, I didn’t love some of the content I created. I’ll learn from my past mistakes. Now I have a better idea of what worked and what didn’t.

Going forward, I want to write and blog without overthinking every little thing. I think way too much, and sometimes my thoughts paralyze me from creating.

I started this blog out of the blue one random evening after school almost six years ago. I never looked back, and I don’t plan to anytime soon. I intend to continue posting book reviews and poems.

For now, I want to focus on enjoying the journey instead of always rushing. I love roses, so I will stop and smell them. Besides, there is no end goal or end game with my blog. I don’t have a specific destination in mind.

Thank you all for an amazing 2018. Thanks in advance for an awesome 2019.

All this to say, my blog isn’t dead. My blog will die when I die.

My Camp NaNoWriMo 2018 Plans

I don’t know how it’s almost April. But it is. And that means many writers start thinking about Camp NaNoWriMo. I’m no exception.

I don’t have everything worked out, but I do know that as of right now, I’m going to handwrite a memoir. How exciting, huh?

I’ve never felt like I had any right to write one. I welcome the challenge though. Bring it on.

Why handwrite? Because I love handwriting more than typing. It’s also easier to write in a notebook when I’m on the bus than to whip out a laptop.

Also, my eyes don’t like staring at screens for long periods of time.

I’m not planning to outline because when do I ever? Never.

I don’t outline articles, essays, or novels. Funny story that isn’t that funny because I’m not hilarious: the one novel I semi-outlined is still unfinished.

I don’t keep track of how many words I write every day. I’m lazy.

I’m not aiming to write 50,000 words in April or 1,667 words a day. I just want to write something. Hopefully, I’ll have some words to work with once it’s all said and done.

That’s all I have. Regardless of what you’re writing or how much you manage to write, I hope you have a great Camp NaNoWriMo. It’s hard work. But it’s fun if you have the right attitude, which I’m sure you do..

Even though I love writing, I don’t want to abandon this blog in April. Finding a balance won’t be easy. What is?

How To Prepare For Camp NaNoWriMo

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Clean your space.

In a perfect world, everything would be in its place. But we live in an imperfect world, so before April rolls around, try to tidy your desk.

Make necessary purchases.

It doesn’t hurt to make a shopping trip beforehand. Get what you need in advance, so that you aren’t making too many trips during the month ahead.

Build good habits.

And break bad ones. Stop procrastinating.

Find a routine.

Or adjust your current one accordingly. No one said it would be easy.

Prep some meals.

This is adulting at its finest. Or just basic survival.

Get ahead.

In whatever you can. If you’re a blogger, write blog posts now and schedule them for the future.

Prewrite.

It’s not easy going from writing 166 words a day to 1667 words. Trust me on this.

Schedule writing days.

If you know you’re going to be exceptionally busy one weekend because your friend is getting married, it wouldn’t be a good idea to make your novel the biggest priority those days. But if you’re planning to chill on Friday night, maybe you’ll reach your word count and then some.

Have fun.

Allow yourself to go out and enjoy your last few days of freedom.

Am I Happy With My University Grades?

I’m not sure what overcame me a while ago, but I decided to check all of my grades at once. I needed to rip off the band-aid. It wasn’t satisfying.

They aren’t bad. They aren’t amazing.

I feel like I have room for improvement though, and I intend to improve. Easier said than done however.

To be quite honest, I’m happy. I maintained good habits. I looked after my physical, mental, and emotional health. I also lived my life, did the things I loved.

I’d even go so far as to say all things considered, this past semester is my favourite one thus far.

I worked hard and smart.

Even though my grades aren’t as good as they have been in the past, it’s not the end of the world. There are more important things to me than my GPA.

I’m a month into 2018, and a part of me already misses last year.

I still can’t believe it’s over. I had a fun ride. I’ve learned a lot.

I’m glad I can look back on 2017 with a smile on my face. There’s a ton to be grateful for.

Now that I’ve had some time to digest my grades, I realize I’m fine with them. Obviously, I wish they were higher, but I can live with my GPA. At least, I can’t complain.

I’m ready to see how the rest of 2018 pans out.

New Year’s Resolutions For 2018

It’s that time of the year again where I make a few resolutions and try not to break them all within two weeks.

Blogging

I still want to blog as often as possible. Of course, some days are easier than others. But I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. I want to write more posts, but I’ll try to read more as well. Pinky promise.

Reading

I set my 2018 Goodreads challenge to 38 books. I’m hoping to read every day. That being said, quality trumps quantity. I plan on expanding my narrow horizons. I’d like to dabble in other genres I don’t typically reach for. I might even read a nonfiction book or two.

Reviewing

I’ve only been reviewing books for several months. My plan is to keep going. In a perfect world, I’d catch up and publish reviews soon after finishing the book. A reader can dream.

Writing

Every year, I strive to get someone to publish something. I may have some exciting news to share in the spring of 2018. I couldn’t be more excited. I’m going to submit to contests and competitions every chance I get. Even though I’m focusing on scholarships this year, I still have stories I want to share with the world.

To be honest, before writing this post, I felt a bit down and discouraged. But listing my goals has reinvigorated me.

I can’t predict the future, but by this time next year, I like to think I can look back at some accomplishments.
