So I haven’t been blogging as much lately.
Sometimes, I can’t seem to push the publish button. I’m too hard on myself. In some ways, I expect perfection even though nothing will ever be perfect, especially these short, informal, personal blog posts.
My creativity has left me these days. I realize I’m not operating on an optimal level because I don’t get enough sleep.
I hope this phase ends sooner rather than later. I don’t know how other bloggers do it. I have no idea how I’ve managed for the past five years.
I’m not giving up, but going forward, I’ll be blogging less.
As much as I want to make all my hobbies a priority, this blog isn’t the biggest one right now.
I’m coming to terms with the fact I can’t do everything, but I can do a few things well.
Blogging is not easy. It’s hard. And life happens. That said, I’ll try to enjoy the process and embrace the challenges.
It’s OK if you miss a day. You don’t have to do everything every day.
Start small. One hour might be too much, but ten minutes is more realistic. Don’t try to do too much right away.
Consistency is crucial. Forget about the results or numbers. Putting in a little bit of work every day beats doing a whole lot once in a blue moon. Your progress adds up.
Adapt accordingly. You’re allowed to change your habits.
Keep a diary or journal where you can jot down your habits. That way, you’re able to look back and see what you accomplished.
Simplify. If you’re over complicating the process, you’re less likely to do the habit. Make it easier on yourself to do the things you want to do.
Prioritize your habits. Not every habit is equal. So when you’re having an especially busy day, know what to put first and what can wait.
You can try to kill two birds with one stone. Be careful you aren’t dividing your attention though.
Find a balance. You don’t have to turn all your hobbies into habits. Sometimes, you’re better off having some flexibility.
Push yourself but never to the point of pain.
Daily habits shouldn’t hold you back from trying new things. No matter what, life will happen to you whether you like it or not. So live every day.
Any day is a good day for a self care public service announcement. I know I’ve talked about taking care of yourself in the past, but I’m talking about it again because I’m a broken record.
I don’t care what season it is (baseball or winter). Remember to prioritize your needs, whatever they may be.
Say no if you need to. Fun fact that isn’t fun but it is a fact: I said no to prom. If I can, you certainly can.
Don’t forget to eat and exercise. Do the things you want. Read a book. Listen to music. Make time for your hobbies, interests.
Let’s also talk about drinking and driving. To be honest, I do not enjoy either one individually.
That being said, if you ever feel pressured to drink and you hate it as much as I do, put your foot down. This is your body. You know yourself best. Do what you want, not what someone else wants.
Don’t feel up to drive? Then don’t force the issue. Take a bus, a cab. Call a friend or family member. Listen to your gut. It knows what’s up.
Self care isn’t just about luxury either. You don’t need to go to a spa or a saloon. You can take a bath or do your nails at home.
Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference like going to the gym in the morning, going to bed earlier at night, etc.
I hope you treat yourself well in 2018. Don’t forget you have one life. One body, one heart.
You may be busy with work or school or a number of other obligations, but you’re not too busy to care about yourself and look after your health.
