Personal Reflection

#BellLetsTalk

Let’s talk. And listen.

Let’s share. Let’s speak.

Let’s blog. Let’s write.

Let’s read. Let’s remember.

Let’s start a conversation today, continue it tomorrow, and keep one going together.

Personal Reflection

Silence | What I Love | October 2016

I love silence. I love being silent.

Sometimes I don’t want to talk. More like most of the time. Sometimes I can’t talk. I still remember getting my tonsils removed, and I kid you not, I didn’t mind not being able to speak properly for days.

But I think people who understand my silence deserve a reward of some sort. Thanks for understanding that I don’t always want to talk. That, in rare cases, I physically can’t make sounds with my vocal cords.

I’m not trying to come off as rude. If I do, I’m sorry. I figure it’s better to say too little than to say too much. Or better yet, maybe say nothing at all.

Writing

How Being A Writer Will Change Your Life

  1. You learn how to survive rejection sooner or later. At the very least, you know how to cope with it.
  2. You are insanely observant. You likely know too much about someone even before you meet them. It comes in handy many times. Let me tell you.
  3. You can communicate well, write impeccably, and speak effectively. People love that. You’ll get much further in life with these skills you have developed as a writer that other non-writers don’t have.
  4. You correct people confidently. Or quietly. Do as you please.
  5. You read. Enough said.

What Writers Do Best

There are many things writers can do that others can’t do. It’s probably more correct to say writers outdo non-writers in…

Refusing to speak to people for days on end.

Sorry mom, dad. And my dearest apologies to anyone who once worried whether I dropped off the face of this earth. Now you know.

Imagining scenarios that will never, ever happen in real life.

Every day, night, hour, minute, second. Everything my mind conjures up is literally impossible.

Observing human beings from the way they talk to the way they breathe.

I’ve been wrongfully called a “stalker” and a “creep”. Non-writers are so silly sometimes.

Presenting

The Do’s and Don’ts of Being a Standout Presenter

Here’s a short excerpt:

Let’s face it, being an effective presenter isn’t easy. For some, it’s downright terrifying. But speaking is a necessary skill both in school and in real life. Here’s how to become a better speaker. Well, in theory.

Do Use the 10-20-30 Rule

Coined by great the Guy Kawasaki, he says you should have 10 slides per presentation, shouldn’t be over 20 minutes long and nothing smaller than 30 point font. That’s a good place to start.

Do Prepare for the Worst

What do you do if the video you planned to play doesn’t work? Or the projector malfunctions halfway through your presentation? Simple. You keep going.

A Fact About Writers

Fact about me: I am an eloquent writer but a disastrous speaker.

Fact about writers: A writer is much more articulate with a pen and a piece of paper rather than a PA system and a podium.

I don’t know about you but verbal communication is a great struggle.
