Would You Rather: Bookish Edition

Would you rather only read the first book or the last book in a series? The first. I don’t want to be completely lost

Would you rather never go to a bookstore or a library ever again? Bookstores. I love libraries too much. I can always buy books online.

Would you rather live in a fictional world or have fictional characters live in your world? I want to live in a fictional world. That’d be fun.

Would you rather buy every book or borrow every book? I love buying books. My bank account doesn’t however.

Would you rather read out loud or listen to someone read to you? Read out loud. I don’t do it often enough.

Would you rather always bring a book with you or never be able to? Always bring a book. Ebooks make this much easier.

Would you rather throw a book into a fire or into water? Water. I don’t have what it takes to burn a book.

Would you rather eat dinner with your favourite author or favourite character? I’ll pick the brain of an author any day.

Would you rather spoil a book for someone else or have someone spoil a book for you? I can’t stand spoilers. So I’m going to spoil a book or ten for someone else. Sorry not sorry.

Would you rather have to recommend books you hate or be recommended books you hate? Be recommended books I hate. What an awful life either way.

Would you rather only read at home or on the go? I’m such a homebody. I do a lot of reading at home. I’ll survive doing other things on the go.

Would You Rather: Writing Edition

I’m bringing back would you rather for writers. You’re welcome.

Would you rather read your work aloud or have someone else read it?

Read my own work please and thank you. I don’t want to hear people reading my story. The thought alone is cringeworthy. That’s more of an indictment on me than anyone else.

Would you rather share your stories with complete strangers or best friends?

This is a tough one. I’ll say strangers. What does that say about me? What does that say about my friends and my relationship with them? Don’t get me wrong, I love the people in my life, but there’s something different about letting individuals you don’t know review your creations.

Would you rather write in hot climates or cold temperatures?

Cold. I’ll take wearing layers over sweating bullets any day of the year. Besides, I feel more comfortable freezing than I do burning. There’s a reason why I live in Canada and plan to stay.

Would you rather have a job writing for someone else or have a job not writing for anyone?

As much as I can see the benefits of having a job that had nothing to do with writing, I still want to write as much as I can…even if that means I’m doing so for others.

Would you rather write in many short bursts or a few long sessions?

I’m somewhere in between. But I personally enjoy many short sessions over lengthy ones. I like taking breaks. Who doesn’t?

What would you rather do?

A Writerly Would You Rather

Would you rather spend the next few minutes of your precious life writing a story or reading this blog post? Don’t answer that.

Would you rather write one bestseller or ten mediocre books?

While I would want to write a bestseller, I’d probably end up writing mediocre stuff that no one in their right mind should spend their hard-earned money on. I’m in a self-depreciating mood. Let me be.

Would you rather always have to outline or never outline your stories?

Never outline anything. Ever. Never ever. Having to outline everything would make me lose what’s left of my sanity.

Would you rather write all your novels in chronological order or in random fashion?

Random would be fun, but I tend to write my stories chronologically.

Would you rather write only with black/blue ink or have to write with other colours?

Black or blue, the latter preferably. I don’t have to read tiny words written in neon yellow to know my eyesight is bad.

Would you rather have nice handwriting but write slowly or messy handwriting but write quickly?

Messy and quickly. My hand can’t keep up with my brain as it stands, so I’ll sacrifice neatness for speed any day of the week.

Would you rather have to use your real name or a pen name beside every piece you publish?

If my real name is going to appear beside something, you can be sure I’m proud of that something.

Would you rather write to music or write to silence all the time?

When I’m handwriting, I prefer silence. When I’m typing on the computer, I like listening to music. I guess I’d write to very soft music then.

Would you rather be a rich writer or a famous one?

Pretending I could and had to pick one, I’d go with being rich because I don’t think I could handle fame. I doubt I’d handle fortune very well either. But with the money, I could hire someone to manage my finances. Maybe even my life as well.

You could’ve written a lot of words in the time it took you to read this post. Thanks for reading.

Feel free to answer the above questions in your head, on paper, or somewhere else entirely.

Would You Rather | Blogging Edition

Would you rather only be able to blog when you felt like it or when you didn’t?

When I didn’t. Because if I could only blog when I felt like blogging, I wouldn’t get much done.

Would you rather blog about one topic that you love or many topics that you like?

I don’t think I would be able to blog about one topic for the rest of my life, even if it is something I love. But if I couldn’t blog about writing, I don’t know what I’d do with myself. So I’m not sure how to answer this question. I’d probably go with the latter. Variety  saves my sanity.

Would you rather have to write or blog every day?

Write every day. I personally find blogging harder.

Would You Rather: Reading Versus Writing

Let’s see where my loyalties lie.

Would you rather only be able to buy books or buy notebooks for the rest of your life?

Books. When (not if) I run out of notebooks, I could use loose leaf paper.

Would you rather never be able to read anything written by everyone else or never write anything for everyone else?

This is a no-brainer (because I changed the question to be easier to answer). I never want to write anything for everyone else. I love writing for myself. I hope you do too.

Would you rather have to read every day or have to write every day?

I do both currently, but if I have to choose, I’d say read.

Would you rather have people read well or write well? (You define well.)

Probably the former. As much as I want people to be better writers, being able to read well is crucial.

Would you rather have all your family and friends be readers or writers?

I think I’ll go for readers because you can’t beat bonding over books. To be fair though being surrounded by writers would be an interesting experience.

What did this post accomplish? I don’t know. Can someone please restore purpose to my blog?

Another Writerly “Would You Rather”

Remember when I did a whole slew of “Would You Rather” posts last year? Good times.

You can find her post here.

Would you rather…

Drink coffee or tea?

I run on water. But between the two drinks, I’d have to say tea. To be fair, I don’t think I’ve ever had coffee in my eighteen year lifespan.

Write a series in the same world or create a new world with every novel?

Create new worlds. I get bored easily. Too easily.

Write a short story a week or one novel a year?

Probably a short story a week and then combine them all into a novel. In all seriousness, I’d write more if I wrote one short story a week as opposed to a novel a year.

Type or write longhand?

I think the appearance of my right hand gives it away.

Write play scripts or comic books?

Scripts. I’ve written scripts before but not comics.

Have more of an author presence on Twitter or Tumblr?

I have more of a presence on Tumblr because I’m horrendous with Twitter. But I’d like to be better.

Use your real name or a pen name?

I’m too vain to use a pen name.

Have your book become a movie or a television show?

Probably movie even though a TV show would be super cool. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

Read your writing aloud to a roomful of loved ones or strangers?

Without a doubt, strangers. Stranger danger doesn’t exist to me.

Write in silence or with noise/music?

Music please. I write in silence when the mood strikes me.

Have an entire day of uninterrupted writing time or write in short bursts of time?

Short bursts. An entire day of anything is too much.

Be a main character in a romance novel or an action novel?

Action. Action. Action.

Write about the past or the future?

Future. Who wants to drag up the past anyway? Not me.

Be the lesser-known coauthor of a bestseller or the sole author of an average-selling book?

This is tough. Probably sole author of an average-selling book. Again vain. I want my name and my name only all over the book.

Meticulously plot out every aspect of your novel or just wing it?

I wing more than I plot. That might explain why my stories lack plot. A plot is non-existent as well.

I tag all your beautiful bodies and brains.

Thanks Kris. You saved me from coming up with a blog post idea today.

“Would You Rather” Reader Edition

I’m sort of ripping off the ever so popular  Would You Rather” Book Tag. Bite me.

Feel free to answer these questions yourself in the comments below or create your own post. Whatever floats your blogging boat.

Would you rather only read new books or reread old books you’ve read in the past?

Read new books. There are too many books I have yet to read.

Would you rather only read paperbacks or hardcovers?

Paperback. They’re lighter, cheaper, and easier to carry although I don’t carry my books anywhere.

Would you rather only read in natural light or artificial light?

Natural light please.

Would you rather only purchase new books and borrow used ones?

Purchase even though I’m broke.

Would you rather only read books recommended by friends or books recommended by strangers?

I’m tempted to answer with strangers for some odd reason.

Would you rather only read fiction or non-fiction?

Gah. I can’t live without either, but I’ll say non-fiction because it encompasses more.

If you missed it, I created my own “Would You Rather” Writer Edition and even a “Would You Rather” Blogger Edition.

I’m retiring for making these types of posts now. Coming up with questions was a lot harder than answering them. I wouldn’t lie to you.
