Screaming Inside | A Poem

Can you see

the screams in my eyes?

As I make

and break away.

Can you hear

the pain in my ears?

It’s loud

but silent all the same.

Was that pity

or annoyance?

I suck my stomach in

out of habit.

Lower my head,

cast my vision to the ground.

What can I do?

What choice do I have?

I will time to pass,

for the streets to clear.

I could; I can’t, I don’t, I won’t.

No, be nice, it’ll be over soon.

Not now, please, thank you.

Okay, all right, sure.

Stop. No, I can’t, I cannot…no.
